Bernie's Notes

Ten years ago today the first message was sent to the Transport-Communications group.  As you've seen throughout this week, the TCN has come a long way since 1998.  The group began with just a handful of members; mostly people I worked with or knew professionally.  Today there are over 7,000 people who get the TCN sent to them directly and an unknown number who read copies online or forwarded to them.  I never expected that one day I would have readers in places such as China, Brazil, Madagascar and Afghanistan.  My longest continuous subscriber using the same e-mail address has been Peter Sturgis, but whether you joined in 1998 or today; I want to thank you for having been readers of the TCN.  I appreciate the comments you've sent, including words of encouragement and suggestions for changes.  I realize this is very much a two-way medium and I hope you'll continue to stay in touch.  Thank you for everything since without you this would only be an exercise in typing to myself.  I hope the newsletter continues to be a welcome addition to your inbox each weekday for years to come.
