THE POSITION
The CEO is responsible for ensuring AKF USA has and executes a clear direction, sense of purpose and a well-defined proactive agenda that strives to continually create new opportunities, improve the organization'
S/he will:
Lead and promote the effective evolution of AKF USA's programmes including the definition of objectives, conceptualisation of programme approaches and development of specific projects to meet the objectives.
Search, within the approved programme strategy and thematic areas for attractive programme opportunities for consideration.
Oversee the grants review, monitoring and evaluation process of programmes, projects and activities supported by the AKF USA other agencies contributing to co-funding.
Create an organizational culture that values, nurtures, excites and engages a commitment to AKF USA's vision and mandate.
Use innovative approaches to expanding the depth and breadth of the resources available to AKF USA to carry out its work in particular by diversifying its private fundraising sources.
Build on and strengthen AKF USA's relationships with appropriate governmental agencies with a view to securing matching funds, grants, joint ventures, or other contributions towards it's development activities.
Provide strategic direction with respect to AKF USA's corporate communications, promoting and publicising the Foundation's goals, objectives, policies and activities to the donors, key NGOs and aid agencies, philanthropists, leaders in the private sector and government, as well as the general public.
Be responsible for AKF USA's financial management and control function, and ensuring that appropriate financial policies, strategies and processes are in place.
Provide oversight to all aspects of the financial operations including budgets, audits and financial statements.
Prepare and submit for consideration and review, objectives, annual operating plans and budgets, and oversee the execution of the approved plans and cash flow projections, budgets and budget analyses.
Ensure the compliance of the legal obligations of AKF USA.
THE REQUIREMENTS
The person selected for this position should have a keen appreciation for the objectives and ethical underpinnings of the AKDN in general and AKF in particular.
S/he should have a strong interest in the developing world and a willingness and ability to learn quickly about a broad range of development issues in which AKF is involved.
The post requires excellent communication, conceptualization, analytical and team working skills.
The candidate should have had at least 7 years of previous management experience, preferably grounded within the American international context.
The post requires an individual who is capable of dealing sensitively and productively with a wide range of stakeholders.
Knowledge of, and familiarity with, technology and modern communications are essential.
Experience and knowledge of the developing world would be a distinct advantage.
